Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered speech at the meeting
On behalf of Petrovietnam, Chairman Nguyen Quoc Khanh reported to the Prime Minister on the production and business activities of the Group in recent times. Main production targets of the Group for Quarter I/2016 have been fulfilled and over-fulfilled. In particular, crude oil production reached 4.56 million tons, 7.2% exceeding the target for the first quarter; gas production was 2.78 billion m3, 11.7% exceeding the target; electricity production and supply to the national grid was 5.21 billion kWh ... The Group also contributed 18.6 trillion dong to the state budget.
Besides the advantages mentioned above, low oil price are affecting the production and business activities of the Group, especially the areas of oil & gas exploration and production, oil & gas services.
In this situation, the Party Committee and leaders of the Group has developed specific solutions, be drastic in giving instructions for taking measures to respond to the volatility of oil price. Many units have focused on optimizing management, practicing thrift in production, promoting innovation and applying advanced technologies to production to reduce costs and increase competitiveness, assessment of production and business efficiency; seizing investment opportunities, improving technical equipment, actively looking for markets, especially the markets outside industry and abroad.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh also presented a number of difficulties facing the Group, both objective and subjective ones, as well as gave recommendations to the ministries and departments a number of issues relating to the Group’s activities.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked to tell the truth, and gave specific solutions. The Prime Minister praised the Group and petroleum workers for the best efforts, and appreciated the full attendance of the units’ leaders. During the process of establishment and development, Petrovietnam has always been given special attention, direction and favorable conditions by the Party and the State. The results of the Group’s activities has made significant contributions to the cause of national industrialization and modernization, national energy security, to the State budget and socio-economic development of the country.

The Prime Minister requested that the Party Committee, Board of Directors, leaders of the units motivate staff and workers to overcome difficulties, create consensus to fulfill the business targets. The decline in oil price is an opportunity for us to see the shortcomings, then take drastic measures for stability in the leadership of each unit and effective management.
For the coming time, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested Petrovietnam to deeply study, effectively implement Resolution No. 41-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the strategic orientation for development of Vietnam oil and gas industry until 2025, vision to 2035 with a focus on: oil & gas exploration and production; gas industry; oil and gas processing; storage and distribution of petroleum products; oil & gas services, especially high quality petroleum engineering service.
The Prime Minister decided to establish a working group led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, together with the Ministry of Finance, the Government Office, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and PVN to review all the issues relating to PVN, and find solutions to the development of the Group. In the second quarter, the working group shall report to the Prime Minister for consideration.
Regarding Petrovietnam’s recommendations, the Prime Minister requested the Ministries to study, and also report in the second quarter on handling the issues recommended by Petrovietnam. The Prime Minister also asked Petrovietnam to maintain the pace of production, not to decrease oil and gas production.
Giving conclusion at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc acknowledged and praised the Group for the efforts, active contribution to fulfillment of socio-economic targets, important contribution to national industrialization and modernization, national energy security, great contribution to the State budget. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc believed that with glorious tradition and recent important achievement, as an economic group having long tradition and leading group of the national economy, Petrovietnam leaders and employees would have enough skill & spirit and wisdom to overcome the difficulties ahead, build a strong and sustainably developing economic group, deserving the trust of the Party and the people.
